Here is a great short cut you can use to get a screen shot that includes a specific window that you may wish to share with any number of people. We call this the “Active Window Screen Shot” short cut.
When you want a screen shot to send to people you can simple hit the “PrtScn” button and it copies the entire desktop. In the case of dual monitors both desktops are copied. You can paste this in an email or other MS Office doc. But let’s say you have a message popping up in a specific window and that is all you want to share with others. This short cut allows you to do so. The “Active Window Screen Shot” short cut will only copy the active window. Then you can paste that information in an email or other document to pass on. This not only helps your tech or intended receiver of this information focus on the specific issue, it looks clean, professional and protects your information the may be on other parts of the Desktop.
Here is the short cut:
The key strokes you will use to carry out the short cut include the “Alt” key and the “PrtScn” key. While you are in the window you wish to copy hold down the “Alt” key. Then push down the “PrtScn” key.
That is it. Now you can paste that where you would like it and pass it on to whom ever you wish.
Have a great time trying this out and impress your co-workers with your Jedi-like keyboard acumen.
