The “Highlight” Short Cut

One of our values at CSI Onsite is “Economy Of Movement” (EOM), which is really a principle of my Martial Arts training from Sifu Alex Avestruz (http://sosfighting.com/).  Simply said it is using only what you need, only when you need it. EOM is all about efficiency taking into consideration, ergonomic, kinetic, and chronological resources.  In a work place environment, specifically you and your work space (computer) these are important considerations. That’s the reason for this blog. Over the years we have passed on to our customers numerous time and energy saving tips. They found them useful to the point of suggesting we make classes to teach them. We believe we can do even more by simply sharing them through the media of blogging. Here is today’s short cut: The “Highlight short cut.

Believe it or not, if you are not already aware of this short cut, you will use it everyday for the rest of your career, saving wear and tear on your body (your Carpal joints, Deltoids and Teres Muscles will thank you).

How to use the short cut

As you find content you wish to “Copy”, “Cut”, or “Paste” place the curser at the beginning of this content (especially when dealing with text).  You can do this with your mouse if you wish, I recommend using your arrow keys (EOM) to reduce wrist/shoulder movements. Once you have your beginning place set; hold down the “Shift” key and use one of your four “Arrow” keys to highlight the area you wish to copy, cut, paste, or transfer to a different location. You should see the content surrounded by a highlight color (blue on my machine). Now you can do as you wish with the highlighted area.

Give this a shot and let us know how it is working for you or contact us to ask any questions. Have a great day.
