Don’t be fooled! New SCAM trying to grab your dollars

Happy April!

We have had a number of clients ask us if they should pay the bill they received to “backup your website” from “WebsiteBackup”.  Unfortunately, this is as good as an April Fools Day Prank.WebsiteBackup

DO NOT pay this invoice, as it is a scam.  If you read the fine print on the back, the service start date is when they receive your payment.  The bottom line is they are trying to get your money to sign up for a service you don’t need.

In addition, unless you’re storing data in a database on your web site, most likely your files are stored safely on your web developer/designer/webmaster’s computer – so if something were to happen to your site, a most recent copy could be put back.  Again, this applies to simple, “brochureware” type websites, not necessarily your e-commerce or CRM database driven web site, but even those “should” have a backup available from the hosting provider.  You can ask your host’s support department what you have available to your company.

If you are concerned about the safety and security of your web site, give us a shout and we can help you figure out what you have, what you need, and what to do next – just don’t fall prey to this scam…

Have a great day!
